What are the six Texas flags?

The Texas Flag popularization goes back to the 1936 Centennial Celebration. Six Texas Flags display, the Centennial’s dual theme of history are some of the Texas myths that continue today.

The centennial year marks the commencement of the six flags Texas’s visual identity and gradually installed in the State of Texas Building.

In The Bullock Museum, we can learn about the nation’s story that each of the six flags of Texas represents to express the rich and complicated history of the Lone Star State.

Spain, 1519–1685 and 1690–1821 — One can find Texas at the northernmost tip of Spain’s North American. During its occupation of North America, the country had four vital flags- The Royal Banner of Castile and León, with two lions and two castles on a red and white background.

France, 1685–1690

La Salle’s wanted to have a colony at the entrance of the Mississippi River. At the time of his campaign along the Texas coast, the Flag’s country had a white background overlaid by fleurs-de-lys, a simplified version of the French royal Flag.

Mexico, 1821–1836

Mexico got free from Spanish colonial rule and adopted its first republican Flag. It had vertical green, white, and red stripes signifying the “Three Guarantees” — religion, independence, and Union. It also shows Mexico’s Aztec heritage, as we can see an eagle with a serpent in its mouth standing on a cactus.

The Republic of Texas, 1836–1845

The Republic of Texas emerged as an unruly frontier nation with its nine-year historical story. Blood red, azure blue, and white, three official flags represent bravery, loyalty, and purity. Later it was specified that the red and blue colors should be the same as those of the U.S. flag.

The Confederate States of America, 1861–1865

Texas joined with other slaveholding states in withdrawing from the Union in 1860 and formed the Confederate States of America. It had three flag designs representing the government of the Confederate States of America — “Stars and Bars,” having two large red horizontal stripes -large white stripe and a blue canton. For some, the Flag represents a history of enslavement, repression, & patriotic heritage to others.

The United States of America, Year — “1845–1861” & “1865-present”

The United States’s 28th state was Texas, and when 28-Star Flag became official, it was utilized for only one year. Now it has a 50-Star in the Flag & is most commonly used in modern displays of the Six Flags.
